The Police and other officials take it very seriously when young people break the law. If a young person commits a crime the police will usually tell a person called a Children’s Reporter. The Children’s Reporter gathers lots of information about what has happened and decide what to do with the young person.
Sometimes they will decide that the Police or other agencies, like social workers, have to work with the young person to look at their behaviour.
Sometimes they will decide to organise an official meeting to decide what to do. This meeting is called the Children’s Hearing.
